When to See a Doctor About Leg Cramps

Most of the time, leg cramps are not something you absolutely must see a doctor about.

There are some times when it is good to see your doctor about leg cramps. Seek immediate medical care if:

  • You are having severe and persistent cramping

  • You have been exposed to a toxin, such as lead, and are now having leg cramps

  • Your sleep is so interrupted by leg cramps that you the have trouble functioning during the day

  • You also have muscle weakness and/or muscle atrophy
