When you have a painful leg cramp, you want relief as soon as possible. Here's some ideas that might help:


  • Stay hydrated. Drink enough water, 8 glasses a day is a good goal.

  • Make sure you shoes fit correctly and provide proper support

  • Stretch your leg muscles, loosen up any tighness

  • Stretch your toes toward your knees

  • When in bed, make sure that your bed covers are not too tight at your lower legs

  • Rub and massage the cramped muscle

  • Walk to exercise the cramping leg

  • A warm shower, bath, jacuzzi, or hot tub session may help the cramping muscle
